Bear One Another's Burdens

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

(Galatians 6:9-10 ESV)

For several months, just as in many other places, our region in Papua Island has been experiencing lockdowns and social distancing. While many of us have been pressed by hardship, I can see waves of opportunities rising.

Those who have an internet connection, can harvest sales through online and social media platforms. For those of us who are not online, we help each other and check on our neighbors more often since the pandemic hit. People are standing together and sending support and help from all over the world. I appreciate those who keep their spirits high and refuse to be controlled by circumstances. Creativity grows, challenges are turned to opportunities to help others and keep being productive. We bear one another’s burdens. I can see how God has opened opportunities for all of us.

We read in the Bible, “As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone…” Can we see that our challenges today open more opportunity for us to do good? This is the time! And God promises if we do not give up, we will reap in due season.

Nearing the end of 2020, the seasons are changing, the challenges persist; yet the opportunity to do good remains. And I believe God is with us to transform us to be better, stronger, and kinder through these challenges.
