When the news about the Southern California wildfires reached Indonesia, the children united their hearts in prayer.
The children on Sumba Island wrote their prayers on pieces of paper and decorated their classroom board with prayers. With their Bibles opened on their desks, they prayed together. They also prepared a video to encourage the people in Los Angeles.
Roman, a TfN intern in Sumba, led his students in prayer: “God, in this difficult situation, give them joy and comfort. Even though some lost their earthly homes, may they believe that their real homes in heaven will never be lost. We trust that You are able to give them joy like they have never experienced before. We believe that Your plan for each one of them is the best plan, and we pray that they continue to have hope in You even in the midst of challenges.”
A girl in grade two stood in front of the class to lead her friends in prayer: “Lord Jesus, we pray for those who were hurt by the fires. Please make the fire go away completely. Be with those who have lost their homes or loved ones. Give them new homes where they can stay. Surely You can send someone to help them and please send people to fix their homes too. Please protect us in Sumba from all kinds of disasters, so we can keep going to school and stay in our homes.”
Netia, a TfN intern who currently teaches in Sorong-Papua, asked her students to form a circle. They held hands, and she led them in a prayer: “Lord, You are always good in our lives. For everything that happens, we trust that You are in control and have a purpose for all of us. We pray for everyone in Los Angeles who experienced great tribulation because of the fires. May You give them hope and the strength to overcome all the challenges and continue to live their lives. May they find ways to know Your love and give their trust to Jesus alone. God, please be with them, heal those who are sick, comfort those who are sad, and for those who lost their homes and everything else, please restore them according to Your will. For all our donors, give them strength, protection, and restoration in their lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”
