Stronger Together

“It happened overnight. Just one night, and our dreams were shattered. The only place where our children could go to school was flattened to the ground. Our school was not like schools in the city. It’s humble. It was made with bamboo walls and a grass roof. But it was ours. We made it with our bare hands. We built it on our dreams so our children could be educated.” – a village parent.

The next morning, Mustard Seed staff received this heart-breaking news with pictures. Some of the villages on the Island of Promise had been ‘swept’ by a tornado. The result, damaged and destroyed buildings like the school. But heartbreak and tears were soon replaced by inspiration and excitement. A fierce wind might blow off the roof and its power might knock down the walls. But it didn’t shake their spirit!

We see how this community stands stronger together. They didn’t stay in a state of despair and wait for help. They started to build again. What they could see was a building smashed to the ground, but then, a stronger unseen determination grew in every villager. And all their children witness the transformation. Their school was being rebuilt. A painful experience doesn’t mean the end. Challenge is a training ground of faith. An investment in education is an investment for their future.

“For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal” (2 Cor. 4:18).
