The Best Gift for Their New Year
The Best Gift for Their New Year
“With your support, we have supported 432 students and 35 teachers in 16 schools on the Island of Promise in 2019. A new school building is now ready with two classrooms, but they still need another three classrooms to serve approximately 100 additional students“
“One, two, three, pull… One, two, three, pull…” rang out along with the thundering sound of a truck engine. The commotion could be heard clearly in the midst of quiet hills on the Island of Promise. A group of men were trying their hardest to pull the truck out of the mud but it was not easy, especially with the steep hills and slippery dirt paths. Despite the difficulty, their faces were happy as a few women and children cheered them on. Why were they happy in the midst of this adversity? Because they knew that a new school was on its way.

The slipping truck was carrying materials to build a school in a remote village nearby. That day, teachers from Mustard Seed’s TransformNation Program visited the village to deliver materials and gather the students. They taught, shared stories and served them with knowledge of health care.
In light of Mustard Seed's focus on holistic transformation, health is one of the most important areas of a student’s life. The community they served has a long history of malnutrition and respiratory diseases. This affected their school attendance and their ability to fully concentrate on their studies.
Mustard Seed’s teachers taught them how to wash their hands properly, brush their teeth and cut their nails. They did lice checks and helped them wash their hair. (To see more pictures of students receiving health care, click here)
As the new year approaches, we ask you to consider partnering with us in opening these new classrooms. By investing in this capacity, you will be giving them the opportunity that they need to make the coming year their best year yet! (To help this community build these classrooms, click here)
