MENTAWAI, SUMATERA

In early 2020, MSI's partner school in Mentawai faced a challenge: a school building had been constructed, but no teachers were available to educate the children. In response, MSI sent skilled educators to establish a functional education system.

Located eight hours by passenger boat from Sumatra, Indonesia, this remote island is home to approximately 90,000 people who primarily rely on farming. Despite the island's natural beauty, educational access is a challenge. Over three-quarters of the population lives in poverty. Drop out rates are high, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable educational interventions to transform the community's future.
