Early in 2025, MSI's Field Leader Cyndi visited several sites in Borneo, Indonesia. She shared some highlights from her journey:
Tucked away in a village of Jaar, Central Borneo, lies Kasih Ibu Children’s Home, a modest but loving space that has become a refuge for children who need it most. The home is currently caring for fourteen children, most of whom were either unwanted or lost their parents at a young age.
“Kasih Ibu” means “Mother’s Love” in Indonesian. A name beautifully reflected in the life of its founder, Heliana. Affectionately known as Elli, she has poured out that love through decades of faithful service. Now elderly, she continues to be a presence of care and strength. I caught a glimpse into her simple room: a chair by the window, a small table with her open Bible, a steaming mug of tea or coffee, and a cat curled up nearby. I feel a gentle portrait of devotion.
There are two property buildings with a bathing and toilet area built by the community in 2016. Laundry lines stretch between two buildings. But what truly brings this home to life, however, are the people.
A few years ago, a widowed mother moved into the children’s home with her four children after losing her husband. Her older kids quickly became part of the community’s daily rhythm—playing, learning, and helping where they could. Their mother, no longer just receiving care, stepped in to support Ibu Elli with the everyday needs of the children, offering both strength and compassion.
And then there’s Rindi, a boy whose story reminds us why places like this matter so deeply. Six years ago, Rindi arrived at the children’s home seeking refuge from an abusive situation. “This is where I finally feel safe,” he told me. His peaceful smile is a testimony to the healing power of love and second chances.
In a world where many children grow up without security or belonging, Kasih Ibu Children’s Home stands as a quiet light. Proof that in even the most modest of places, healing can begin, futures can grow, and faith can take root.
Please pray and consider supporting the work in Kasih Ibu Children’s Home.
Current needs include supporting a child for $30 / month.
