Early in 2025, MSI's Field Leader Cyndi visited several sites in Borneo, Indonesia. She shared some highlights from her journey:
The community of Matarah Campus is a living legacy of faith. Since the 1980s, Mustard Seed International has walked alongside this community: supporting education, discipleship, and holistic care. Today, the campus continues to thrive, where faith is woven into everyday life through classrooms, homes, and even fields.
On my recent visit, I joined five TransformNation (TfN) female trainees during their final practicum. For one of them, it was more than just a practicum, it was a return home. She grew up here, and now she’s preparing to serve the next generation as a Christian educator.
The campus includes teachers’ housing, student dormitories, a church, a school, a library, and even a water reservoir that sustains the community. As a vocational school, agriculture is central to daily life. I watched students till the land with determination, preparing it for planting—hands and hearts equally at work.
At the heart of the site are Dumadi and Lena, longtime leaders whose lives are deeply rooted in this place. The home MSI built for them in 1986 still stands strong. Next to it is the building that once served as Lena’s medical clinic. Now in her seventies, she continues to provide care to the families on campus.
We also met an elderly couple who first heard the Good News here in Borneo and have faithfully served the community ever since.

Dino and Doni
Among the students were Dino and Doni—two orphaned brothers from Kasih Ibu Children’s Home at Jaar Village. Now enrolled in Matarah High School, they’re thriving. Dino shared his dream of becoming a pastor or a teacher. I left inspired, already thinking about recommending him for next year’s TfN intake.
Matarah isn’t just a campus. It’s a vibrant ecosystem of learning, service, and spiritual formation. A place where seeds of faith planted decades ago are now growing into strong, compassionate leaders who will carry the light forward.
Please pray and consider supporting the work in Matarah
Current needs include supplies and seeds for the students’ farming activities.
