Thank you for Walking with Us

“We are in week two of the Go the Distance Challenge, and we passed the halfway point of our fundraising target! Thank you to all participants and donors who support education in the Papuan Highlands! It's still not too late for those who wish to support the challenge.

Watch the video below to see the journey that Papuan children take to go to school.
“Every day, we walk far away from home in a group of children. One of our teachers, Uncle Tirta, said that we walk 8km to go to school, and another 8km to go home. Do you think that's far? We don't usually wear shoes, as it's easier to grab the dirt and stones on the slippery paths with our bare feet or with simple slippers.”

Teacher Tirta would like to thank all donors and participants of the Go the Distance Challenge. He recently completed Mustard Seed's teacher-in-training program and now serves as a school principal at our partner school. He shared, “It's really difficult to find a faithful person in Papua…That's why schools in Papua are dying. But what I see in Lia and Alfrida, they are faithful to come to school. Even though it's raining or flooding, they are never late…there's hope in them.”
